I have always bought these to hold knives or spoons in....wooden dating to Early 20th Century...Original Paint with Armorial Crest to the front. Knives photographed here are my own and not for sale.

It is actually a shot holder or something similar used in the Army (need to be enlightened on that). A great untensil holder though.
